Children’s Dance

The Sylvie Essame School of Dance runs classes for all ages and abilities, with the emphasis on creating a fun, friendly and encouraging atmosphere which allows all pupils to realize their potential.

The classes have a warm atmosphere and we strive for a close-knit community feel in order for pupils to gain in self-confidence, broaden their social skills, and develop a professional attitude towards dance.

Young pupils of the school follow the ISTD modern theatre dance grades and syllabus, a carefully planned and well tried examination syllabus, that comprehensively teaches modern dance, jazz, and other dance styles, and which is constantly evolving to include new styles of dance development.

Alongside this, pupils are encouraged to perform regularly, both in whole school shows and in professional theatres throughout the local area (for example, in Milton Keynes, Northampton, Aylesbury and Banbury). We also encourage participation in local events such as carnivals and fetes, and other, less traditional performances.

We strive to allow well-rounded dance development, and often run workshops at the beginning and end of term so that more senior members of the school can experience all kinds of dance expression. We have had street dance workshops, contemporary dance workshops, and theatre dance workshops (where the pupils learnt part of a piece from the West End production of Chicago!)
